Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority
Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority (KCZMA) is functioning under Department of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Kerala. The KCZMA has been setup by the Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change, Govt of India for supervising and overall monitoring of the implementation of provisions of CRZ notification. The Authority shall have power to process all the matters, proposals received, referred to or placed before it for coastal regulation zone clearance in accordance with procedure laid down in the Notification of Govt. of India.
The authority shall have the purpose of protecting and improving the quality of the Coastal environment and preventing, abating and controlling environmental pollution in the coastal regulation zone areas in the State of Kerala by taking the following measures, namely:-
- Receive application for approval of project proposal and examine whether it is in accordance with the approved Coastal Zone Management Plan and complies with the requirement of the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification issued by the Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change, Govt of India and make recommendations for approval of such project to the concerned authority as specified in the said notification within a period of sixty days from date of receipt of such application.
- Regulate all developmental activities in the coastal regulation zone as specified in the said Notification.
- Enforce and monitor the provisions of said CRZ Notifications.
- Examine the proposal received from the State Govt. for change or modification in the classification of Coastal Regulation Zone and in the Coastal Zone Management Plan and make specific recommendation thereon, to the National Coastal Zone Management Authority thereafter.
